Infusion FAQs

What is an infusion clinic?

An infusion clinic is a specialized healthcare facility where patients receive medications or therapies through an IV (intravenous) line. Our clinics treat a range of conditions, including neurological disorders like multiple sclerosis, autoimmune diseases, and chronic migraines.

During your visits, trained staff monitor your treatment and are available to answer questions or address concerns. Most treatments are provided on an outpatient basis, so you can return home the same day.

The cost of infusion therapy varies depending on the type of medication, dosage, and insurance coverage. Patients' out-of-pocket costs will vary based on their insurance, copay assistance programs, and other foundations/grants. Our team will help you navigate and work with you to reduce out-of-pocket expenses.

What types of IV infusion therapies do you offer?

IV infusion therapy can be an important part of managing conditions like multiple sclerosis (MS), helping control symptoms and support long-term neurological health. While there is no cure for MS, these treatments may help reduce relapses, protect nerve function, and improve daily well-being. Our team of neurological specialists works with each patient to create a personalized infusion therapy plan tailored to your individual needs and goals.

Your treatment plan may include one or more of the following IV therapies:

  • Ocrevus® (ocrelizumab): Targets specific B cells involved in the immune response to help reduce relapses and slow progression of MS.
  • Briumvi™ (ublituximab-xiiy): Works similarly to Ocrevus by controlling inflammation and supporting nerve health.
  • Rituxan® (rituximab): Helps manage autoimmune activity and protect the nervous system by targeting B cells.
  • Tysabri® (natalizumab): Prevents certain immune cells from crossing into the central nervous system, reducing inflammation and nerve damage.
  • Ultomiris® (ravulizumab-cwvz): Supports management of certain neurological and autoimmune conditions by inhibiting harmful immune components.
  • Vyepti® (eptinezumab-jjmr): Helps reduce the frequency of migraine attacks for patients who qualify for treatment.
  • Vyvgart® (efgartigimod): Used for generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG) by lowering harmful IgG antibodies involved in muscle weakness.
  • Uplizna® (inebilizumab-cdon): Helps prevent relapses in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) by targeting B cells that contribute to inflammation and optic nerve/spinal cord attacks.

Your care team will guide you through each step of your treatment, discuss potential side effects, and ensure you feel supported and informed throughout the process.

What can I expect during my infusion?

During your infusion therapy, you’ll receive personalized, one-on-one care from your dedicated infusion nurse. Before starting treatment, your nurse will check your vital signs and review your medical history to monitor for improvements or any potential side effects. If needed, your referring provider will be updated on any significant changes in your condition.

Your nurse will also answer any questions you may have before beginning the infusion and will check in with you regularly throughout your treatment to ensure you're comfortable and supported.

What are some common side effects after my infusion?

Most patients do very well with IV infusion therapy. You may notice mild, temporary side effects like headache, nausea, fatigue, or minor reactions at the infusion site, but many patients don’t experience any side effects at all. These usually pass within a few hours to a couple of days.

Serious reactions are rare, but they can include difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, severe rash, or signs of infection such as fever. If you experience any of these, contact your healthcare team immediately. Your care team monitors you throughout your infusion and afterward and is always available to provide support and guidance.

How much will my Infusion treatments cost?

The cost of your infusion therapy can vary depending on several factors including which therapy, your insurance status and insurance provider. Our team at Rocky Mountain MS Clinic are committed to lowering costs and improving access for our patients.

We work with virtually all leading commercial insurance providers in the greater Intermountain region, including Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, DMBA, EMI Health, Humana, PEHP Health & Benefits, Select Health, as Tricare, as well as Medicaid and Medicare.
